SAMSONITE COSCO Eight-Foot Lightweight Aluminum Folding Step Ladder with Leg Lock & Handle Review

SAMSONITE COSCO Eight-Foot Lightweight Aluminum Folding Step Ladder with Leg Lock and Handle

This is a fantastic ladder. Very tall and stable. Having the bar at the top gives you something to lean against for support, so your legs don't start trembling from the strain of trying to balance and not fall. I find it hard to stand confidently on ladders without some sort of stabilizer at the top to lean on, and I especially hate extension ladders. The steps were wide enough to place foot securely on them (Wear rubber soled shoes, or the stairs are somewhat slick.) The top platform step is very nice and easy to stand on. It is also lightweight and easy to carry, especially with the handle lock that keeps it from opening while you are carrying it.
I also have the six foot version of this ladder for shorter applications around the house. This 8" version is for those really tall 2-story windows and cleaning tall shelves, changing some light bulbs, even cleaning gutters outside.
it is important to get the correct dimensions of this ladder to understand how it is an eight foot ladder. The top step is actually at 67", or 5'7", so that combined with average height of 5'4" person, plus the reach of your arms is how they figure it is an 8' ladder. (Even that math doesn't really tally in my head, but that is the base equation they use to determine the height they say a ladder is. This information in the product description would have been helpful to aid in selection.) I had to call the company and a lady went to the warehouse and measured it for me.
Anyway, in my opinion, you can't put a price on your health and safety. The price is very fair for the ladder to begin with, and the stability and security of having a safe ladder I can rely on makes it invaluable to me. If it saves me from even one fall off of any other type of ladder, it paid for itself 10-fold in my mind. Hope this review helps!

Attic Access Door Hatch Review

Attic Access Door Hatch
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
To begin with, two very important things to know:
1) It's kind of tough to install this thing between joists 24" on center (22.5" space...) when the thing is 22 5/8" wide. So I'm not in a very good mood writing this review, as you can imagine. Don't frame it until you have it and measure it or the foul language will be sure to fly. Cruel.
2) There is another model, I think they call it a "Deluxe" that has the latching door with the recesses. That one's more expensive. This one doesn't have any of it, despite the pictures above. Not that I care about the latch, the recesses would have been nice.
It came well packaged, crazy fast shipping from MA to NJ the next day via UPS ground. And it looks very nice up on the ceiling. Finishes off the attic nicely - much better than the piece of sheet rock and moulding you probably have up there now.
Not bad build quality, but for $200 it should have been better. Same for the materials - mine is in a small area of the attic that isn't used, so it will do.
Man, I'm still angry - 1/8" too big for standard framing????????????? Should have been a half-hour installation that ended up taking me four ripping out what I had and redoing it. Not fun.

The E-Z Hatch Attic Access Door Panel Hatch System is an easy to install, easy to use, highly insulated door, panel, hatch system that installs in minutes and provides an air sealed, professional, high-quality, insulated access opening into the attic space. Triple gaskets provide an air tight seal! The core of the door is 10" thick and made of Expanded Polystyrene foam that provides a greater R-Value per inch than fiberglass. The face of the door is gloss white, durable, and easy to clean. The top gasket of closed cell insulation seals the top of the door. The gasket is fire rated per ASTM E84 for flame spread (FSI) 25 or less, smoke developed (SDI) 50 or less, (required by Code for exposed insulation) and meets code requirements. The lightweight door weighs 10 pounds, and lifts up and out of the way for easy attic access. No hinges - The door is designed to prevent interference with the roof joists. Triple pre-installed weatherstrip gaskets ensure an air tight seal. Gasketing provided where the trim meets the ceiling, where the face of the door meets the trim, and where the top of the door meets the frame. The lightweight door opens with little effort, allowing easy entry into your attic space. The finished face on the door fits tightly into the weatherstrip on the trim when the door closes. Perfect for use with any type of attic insulation, including blown-in insulation. The 12 in. tall wood frame acts as an insulation dam, which holds the insulation back from the opening, and takes the mess out of getting into your attic space. Sized to fit either between roof trusses 24" on-center, or between ceiling joists 16" o.c. with minimal carpentry required (cut one joist and add a header and footer). Whether in new construction or retrofit, the unit can be installed in minutes with only a utility knife and a screwdriver. Prefinished gloss white trim and door standard.

Cosco 11-402CLGG2 Big Step Stool, 3-Step, Gray Review

This step stool is not perfect, but it strikes the best balance I could find in the trade-off between adequate sturdiness versus ease of carrying and setup. The construction is relatively lightweight (only rated for 200#). I found the stool easier to carry from room to room and easier to open and close than other models I checked out at the hardware store. Great for changing light bulbs and other quick tasks.

Werner 150B 300-Pound Duty Rating Aluminum Step Stool, 2-Foot Review

This Step ladder was purchased as a time saver to use with another one I already owned. By putting a staging plank across two steps (bottom or middle-NOT top) I could work on an eight foot ceiling easily without a lot of up/down agravation. This step ladder is very well made, I feel very comfortable using it and highly recommend it, especially in pairs with a plank. It will definitely increase productivity.

A small stool is a must for the "vertically challenged" amongst us... This stool does the job and I feel rather safe when I climb its steps to put away something on the top shelves. It is, however, a bit flimsy and some of its plastic parts broke down after the first use. But it still works without them so I am not to worried about it.

McCoy Attic Laddermate Review

McCoy Attic Laddermate
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I just finished installing this cover. If installed fairly easily even for one person doing it without a helper. The trickiest part was pre-drilling the holes for the hinges and getting the device hung by the hinges. With another person holding the bulky device, this part would be easy.
I also added some additional rigid foamboard insulation on top of the attic door and between the door and the Laddermate to increase the R value.
The reason I bought the Laddermate was because it was the only insulation device I could find that would install inside the room on the ceiling. This was necessary because my attic door was installed about 50 yrs ago and the stairs don't fold like modern ones. Instead, the ladder is one solid piece that slides up into the attic before closing the attic door. The result is a 10 foot ladder laying on the attic floor and attached to the attic door. None of the in-attic insulating devices would work with this configuration.
For most modern folding ladders, the Laddermate is probably big enough, but I would probably choose an in-attic insulation fix if this was possible.
I mis-measured my attic door before ordering the Laddermate and discovered that the Laddermate was not long enough to cover the entire opening for my attic door. I solved the size problem by covering the remaining part of the door with rigid foamboard and weatherstripping. I will paint the Laddermate, the foamboard and the ceiling when the weather warms up. The aesthetics aren't the best, but it should do the job.
